Winnipeg, an October Oasis. >>>

Yup, you read that right.

Over 400 delegates and observers from Boards and Associations across Canada converged in Winnipeg on October 29 & 30 to discuss, debate and decide upon some of the most important REALTOR® issues of the day. Much of the agenda was devoted to considering and advancing the Futures strategy map. And everyone was happy to be there, especially with a magnitude 7.7 earthquake in BC and Hurricane Sandy covering everywhere from Toronto eastward. Winnipeg was calm and, of course, being Winnipeg in late October, cool. But no one was complaining.

Two significant items were voted upon. The delegates in Winnipeg approved the motion (pg15) that CREA not pursue the proposal to make FSBO and non-MLS® data available on As previously detailed in NEWS2Me, the Futures Implementation Team made this recommendation due to the risk to the REALTOR® and MLS® trademarks.

There was considerable discussion around the motion (pg16) related to the business case for an independent technology organization to run CREA's technology services. A wide range of views were aired at the meeting and in the end the assembled delegates referred the motion so that more work could be done on the proposal, with a view to reassessing the issue at CREA's Annual General Meeting in March 2013.

Stay tuned for more SGM information next month!
