AGM season >>>

February in Canada means different things to different people. To optimists, it's winter's last kick at the can; to others, unfortunately, it's winter's last kick at the can.

To staff at CREA it's a busy time because it's AGM preparation time. All the documentation, motions and supporting information has to go out a month before the AGM, which this year meant the third week of February since the AGM is March 23rd.

This year's AGM is where the rubber meets the road on a couple of Futures proposals, notably about technology services and a potential rate-your-REALTOR® type service. Over the course of the last two years, members have been consulted through two AGMs, two SGMs, cross-country meetings and a massive online engagement where every REALTOR® could voice their opinion. The results of a portion of those consultations can be found here.

At the most recent gathering of organized real estate at the Special General Meeting in Winnipeg last fall, members voted to investigate ideas for more streamlined technology development and delivery and for CREA to present requirements, along with consumer and member feedback for a rate-your-REALTOR® type service. The results of that work will be presented in detail at the AGM in March and we look forward to hearing from member delegates.

All the best to those Boards, Associations and REALTORS® that will be electing new Boards and transitioning to new leadership over the coming weeks and months. We look forward to tackling the challenges of organized real estate together.

CREA keeps good company

In the same week there was headline news about major hacking incidents to Apple and Facebook, one of CREA's core services to members – WEBForms® – was also a victim of hacking. The security breach was detected while in progress and a fix was deployed immediately. Boards and Associations who upload credentials to WEBForms® were asked to conduct a password reset.

A consulting firm who specializes in IT security has been retained to see what, if any, information was compromised and to assess whether additional security measures need to be taken. The appropriate enforcement authorities will be involved if necessary.
