Letter from CREA President Cliff Iverson
If you're like me, the summer typically begins with ambitious intentions to read the business improvement books that have been collecting dust for far too long, organize your contact lists and dive into the latest technology to help you go paperless, market yourself better or expand your brand.
What do you end up doing, instead? Working.
Of course, that's admirable (and necessary). It's how we make our living! But before we know it, the leaves are changing colour and I find myself wishing I had taken time to explore my passions, pursue new opportunities and connect and reconnect with people who matter.
I've decided this summer will be different. I've set one goal per month that I'm challenging each of us to meet. Are you ready?
JULY: Update your REALTOR.ca profile to include your social media pages, contact info and most-recent headshot.
AUGUST: Run, walk or bike for a charity and/or donate your time to a cause close to your heart. Show your community REALTORS Care®!
SEPTEMBER: Reach out to a new member to see whether they could use some help or have any questions. If that new member is you, consider joining a local Young Professionals Network to connect with others in the beginning stage of their careers.
Yes, summer vacation is meant to be relaxing but it also presents so many opportunities for personal and professional growth — an excellent way to ensure a productive and successful year and beyond!
Well, I'm signing off to enjoy an iced tea on my deck and watch my dog play. You know what they say in Saskatchewan: even if your dog runs away, at least you don't have to worry about losing them. You'll still be able to see them running two days later!
Have a great summer and stay safe.
2016-17 CREA President

Competition Tribunal Update
On June 3rd, the Competition Tribunal issued its Order in the TREB case following its earlier decision on April 27th in which it found that certain restrictions in TREB's Virtual Office Website (VOW) Policy constituted an abuse of dominant position contrary to section 79 of the Competition Act. The Order requires that TREB provide through its VOW data feed the information it had previously restricted from VOWs within 60 days.
TREB is appealing the Decision and the Order to the Federal Court of Appeal, and CREA will be seeking leave to participate in the appeal process.
We will keep you updated as the litigation continues.
