CREA’s 2021 Annual Report is Now Available

As a not-for-profit organization, the Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA) produces its Annual Report to serve many purposes, one of the most important being to compile data that’ll be used to inform decision-making going forward.

We aim to connect every operational function to a tangible goal for supporting REALTORS® and improving the real estate industry in Canada; the Annual Report showcases many of the ways that’s happening.

This year, while managing to work through the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, a national housing supply shortage, and a federal election, our message to policy makers was clear and ultimately reflected in the platform of each of the major parties: Canada needs to place a greater focus on increasing the supply of affordable housing. The successes we’ve seen to date are a testament to the influence and credibility we’ve earned, as well as the collective power we have when our more than 150,000 REALTORS® unite to speak with one voice.

Canada’s Housing Markets

In 2021, 666,995 residential properties traded hands via Canadian MLS® Systems, surpassing the annual record of 552,423 for all of 2020. A high demand for properties was evident in the numbers, while supply remained increasingly tight, fluctuating, and ultimately averaging around the same as in 2020.

Connecting with Home Buyers and Sellers

CREA’s national ad campaign received more than 298.7 million delivered campaign impressions and 177.6 million completed video views! The new television commercial is titled “Welcome Home” and it, along with a complimentary digital suite of ads, has been designed to promote REALTOR® value and reflect consumer sentiment around one of the most significant purchases of one’s life.

Highlights from 2021 on experienced considerable growth in 2021, remaining steady in its stronghold as Canada’s No.1 real estate platform[i]. increased its market share by 23% to ultimately encompass almost 50% of all activity in the Canadian real estate industry for similar platforms.

  • 15.8 million REALTOR® profile views, up 29% year-over-year.
  • 492.3 million visits to, up 39% year-over-year.
  • 5.3 million leads delivered to REALTORS®, up 43% year-over-year.
