The Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA) is pleased to announce Dale Devereaux of Red Deer, Alberta, has been honoured with the Canadian REALTORS Care® Award 2023 Proudly Presented by REALTOR.ca.
Devereaux, a REALTOR® and broker with Century 21 Maximum, brings determination with empathy to both his career in real estate and helping countless families in central Alberta at their time of need.
After a particularly successful year, Devereaux wanted to give back to his local community. He wanted to provide community members in need with the opportunity to share a meal with their families, something he cherished deeply.
Devereaux would go on to donate 100 holiday meals to the Red Deer Food Bank, and the Feed a Family at Christmas campaign was born. Each fall since, Devereaux has reached out to the Red Deer community to maximize the number of meals that are donated to the food bank.
2022 marked the 25th anniversary of Feed a Family at Christmas, and the campaign has provided nearly 30,000 holiday meals.
“Dale has been that guy for us,” explained Mitch Thomson, Executive Director, Red Deer Food Bank. “He’s shown leadership, called on his friends and neighbours, led by example, and has done it with character.”
Devereaux also played a key role in bringing Ronald McDonald House to his community. When the need was first identified, Devereaux was approached to find a piece of land suitable for the Ronald McDonald House in Red Deer.
While he was given years to find the land, Devereaux wasted no time, finding the perfect piece of land within six months, forcing the project to accelerate.
Devereaux felt strongly about the need, so he volunteered to join the capital campaign, raising funds for the Ronald McDonald House’s construction, and opening operations. They raised a staggering $12.1 million in 15 months.
The Red Deer Ronald McDonald House opened in February 2012, and has since housed more than 3,000 families.
We sincerely congratulate Dale and the 47 REALTORS® nominated for this year’s award. In Devereaux’s honour, CREA has donated $5,000 to the Red Deer Food Bank, and Century21 Canada also made a $5,000 donation to another charity close to Dale’s heart, Ronald McDonald House Red Deer.
