Episode 18 of REAL TIME: The Evolution of Canadian Vacation Properties

On Episode 18 of REAL TIME we spoke to Heather Bayer, Co-Founder of Vacation Rental Formula, to hear her insights into the current landscape for vacation properties in Canada.

Bayer walked us through how she got started in the industry, and what continues to motivate her more than 20 years later. We also heard about how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted this niche industry, and how she sees the rest of 2021 playing out as travel restrictions continue to shift, both domestically and internationally.

Bayer laid out the many opportunities that can come along with owning a vacation property, whether that be a waterfront cottage, or an urban condo in a tourist centre. With technologies like AirBnB, VRBO, and other such property rental apps, we learned how they can impact the landscape, and what kind of properties make great rentals.

She also informed us of the risks, and considerations that should be made before jumping into owning your first vacation property. Plus, she gave us great questions REALTORS® can ask their clients early in the buying journey, to help paint a picture of what type of vacation rental property would work best for them. We also looked at the trends in vacation property sales over the past 18 months, and how those are impacting Canadians looking to buy.
