In the early hours of Saturday, September 24, Hurricane Fiona made landfall as a post-tropical storm and left behind a trail of heartbreaking destruction across five provinces. This historic storm took three lives and caused widespread power outages, flooding, and damage to property, buildings, and infrastructure. As the haunting images coming out of Port aux Basques, Newfoundland and Labrador have shown, some homes were tragically swept out to sea.
The Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA) has launched a fundraising campaign in support of the Canadian Red Cross’ Hurricane Fiona in Canada Appeal, as directed by our Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Committee. We’re encouraging the REALTOR® community to make tax-receiptable donations using our REALTORS Care® fundraising page.
The Government of Canada will match donations made to the Hurricane Fiona in Canada Appeal by Canadians and corporations until October 23, 2022. Money raised will enable the Canadian Red Cross to carry out relief, recovery, resiliency and risk reduction activities in and around the affected areas.
We would appreciate your help spreading the word about our campaign to encourage donations and amplify our message that REALTORS® from across Canada are here to help our friends in Atlantic Canada and Eastern Quebec in their time of need. Please visit our REALTORS Care® Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts to find content you can easily share with your social networks.
If you are planning to make an offline donation in support of this campaign, please advise our REALTORS Care® team so we can be sure it is accounted for in our fundraising total.
Thank you in advance for your support.
