Video Highlights CREA’s Advocacy Successes

CREA’s Federal Affairs team was kept busy during an active 2019 centred around the 43rd Canadian election, and in keeping up with the theme of reflection, we want to share some of their success stories.

The Federal Affairs team and our Political Action Committee (PAC) play a pivotal role in representing the interests of REALTORS® to the government. There have been many highlights over the years, including:

  • hosting the first PAC Days event in 1985, which saw 100 PAC Representatives meet their Members of Parliament to advocate on behalf of home buyers and sellers;
  • helping introduce the Home Buyers’ Plan in 1992, which has helped millions of Canadians purchase a home;
  • stopping a proposal that would increase taxes on retired REALTORS®; and
  • modernizing the Home Buyers’ Plan to keep up with the times, making it easier for consumers to get into the real estate market.

The video below outlines more of our successful advocacy efforts. Considering the strides we’ve made over the last few years, CREA is optimistic our voice on Parliament Hill will be heard for many years to come.
